Trump Proposes to Mediate Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

Trump Comments on India-Pakistan Tensions

In light of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, President Donald Trump has expressed hope that he can play a role in easing the conflict. He remarked that if there’s something he can do to help, he’s ready to step in, wishing for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

“It’s really unfortunate. I believe in maintaining good relationships with both nations. I know them both very well and truly want to see things improve. My hope is that they can halt any aggression—right now,” Trump stated during a press conference, addressing inquiries about the ongoing issues between the two countries.

Previously, he mentioned that he wished for the situation to resolve “very quickly.” Trump expressed sorrow over the longstanding conflict, reflecting on how people had likely anticipated some form of escalation based on historical tensions: “They’ve been at odds for so long—decades, even centuries if you think about it,” he said.

When asked if there was a wider message for the nations involved, he simply replied, “No, I hope it ends very quickly.” This came after India initiated Operation Sindoor early Wednesday, targeting several locations in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to retaliate for a terrorist attack in Pahargam that claimed 26 lives on April 22.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Pakistan Army, Lt. Gen. Ahmad Shawdry, reported that missile strikes in Punjab and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir resulted in 31 fatalities and left 57 individuals injured shortly after midnight.
