Donald Trump prosecutor Fani Willis was dealt a major blow Tuesday after Georgia's longest trial in the YSL gang prosecution ended with the acquittal of the last two defendants in the case.
On Tuesday morning, a Fulton County jury found Deamonte Kendrick, who raps under the name Yak Gotti, not guilty of all charges, and also found him guilty of a convicted felon. Shannon Stilwell was also acquitted of all charges except one count of possession of a firearm by a person. According to a report from WSB-TV.
Stilwell and Kendrick are accused of killing rival gang member Donovan Thomas Jr., known as “Big Nut,” during a drive-by shooting.
In October, he reached a surprise plea deal in a case in which his co-defendant, Grammy winner Young Thug, accused him of being the ringleader of the YSL (Young Slime Life) gang.
The case began in 2022 against 28 defendants, many of whom have since been accused of gang members associated with the Bloods committing a variety of crimes, including murder, armed robbery, drug trafficking, carjacking, and violence. is being sued.
This trial is the longest running trial in Peach State history and was brought by Willis. Jury selection took 10 months and testimony began in November 2023.
Willis came under fire last year for admitting to an affair with Nathan Wade, the man he hired to lead the prosecution of Trump.
Willis is also the final defense attorney in four criminal cases against the president-elect. Two federal cases against Trump have since been dropped by special counsel Jack Smith, and Trump's sentencing in the Manhattan hush money case was postponed indefinitely by a judge.
