US to Withdraw from UNESCO
On Tuesday, the Trump administration confirmed that the United States will be exiting the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
“President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw the United States from UNESCO, supporting the common sense policy and gradual awakening that Americans voted for in November, which addresses divisive cultural and social issues,” the statement noted.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar welcomed this decision, calling it a significant step toward promoting justice and ensuring fair treatment within the UN framework.
This announcement comes amidst a series of controversial actions from the GOP administration, creating waves of dissent among globalist leaders, particularly within UN circles.
The US-backed Humanitarian Foundation for Gaza (GHF) has faced criticism from various international bodies. UNRWA Chairman Philip Lazarini previously condemned GHF as spreading “hatred,” warning that its aid initiatives could lead to a dangerous situation in Gaza.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also expressed concern over the cuts to foreign aid by the Trump administration, labeling them as “particularly catastrophic” for vulnerable populations worldwide.
State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce stated that the withdrawal reflects a view that “continuing involvement with UNESCO is not aligned with US national interests.”
“UNESCO promotes divisive social and cultural agendas focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which often contradict America’s key foreign policy objectives. Its recognition of ‘Palestine’ as a member state was especially controversial and contributed to anti-Israel narratives within the organization,” the official statement declared.
Trump had previously pulled the US out of UNESCO in October 2017, but this decision was reversed when former President Biden rejoined the organization in 2023. At that time, concerns similar to those present now were cited, indicating that UNESCO had not made adequate progress in addressing issues that led to the original withdrawal.
