There's only one reason former President Trump won his historic victory in the Iowa caucuses on Monday night: He ran a top-notch campaign.

Throughout May, Gov. Ron DeSantis was within striking distance. Trump looked vulnerable in multiple polls. This could have been a real contest. Instead, it was a humiliating blow to everyone but Donald Trump. And don't forget that Trump lost Iowa to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in 2016.
So what has changed?
Let’s be honest…DeSantis’ campaign was by no means a train wreck. The candidate who always knew what he had to say and performed electoral miracles in Florida also struggled on the national stage. He never found his voice. He couldn't find the message. Please give the DeSantis campaign's message in one word. Please tell us about his vision for this country.
The only thing I can think of is, “I'm Donald Trump without the baggage.” This may be the worst message ever conceived. That message won't win any Trump supporters because we don't care about “baggage.” Most of that baggage is misinformation and lies created by the media. Furthermore, how on earth does “Donald Trump without baggage” attract people who don't like Trump?
Being a great governor means little on the national stage. Just ask Tommy Thompson. Just ask Scott Walker. It's a completely different skill set and the difference between watercolor painting and water skiing.

The problem with former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-South Carolina) is that she's not very bright. She's sorry, but she's not. For Haley, it's a series of amazing deer-in-the-headlights moments. Vivek Ramaswamy showed something. That kid has a future. His youth and scant clothing worked against him, but like Trump, he gave the American people permission to tell the truth on January 6th about gender ideology, corrupt media, and illegal immigration. As for former Governor Chris Christie, he's still the same fat, narcissistic, loud guy you see on TV. All I want to see from Chris Christie is how he gets up off the floor.
This is the right thing to do for Trump…
He kept a low profile. Rather than the self-defeating need to monopolize all of the dozens of news cycles each day, he relaxed and let his accomplishments as president speak for themselves. My hope is that this is intentional on Trump's part and not a kangaroo court created by fascist Democrats to imprison Trump. I don't think he can get re-elected in 5th gear. He wears people down and gathers votes against him.
If he stays in second gear and is smart enough to get bored from time to time, he can win that second term.

Republicans will say these major debates need to be on national television, and that only left-wing news outlets can make that happen. Why do they have to be on national television?
