Trump Responds to Jeff Duncan’s Party Switch

President Donald Trump recently weighed in on Jeff Duncan’s decision to switch from the Republican Party to the Democrats after being expelled from the Georgia GOP due to perceived disloyalty.

Duncan, who served as Georgia’s lieutenant governor from 2019 to 2023 and has been an outspoken critic of Trump, announced his party change in an Op-Ed published in the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He reflected on his time as a Republican and what led him to make this shift.

In a post on True Social early Friday, Trump didn’t hold back his feelings about Duncan, calling him a “complete loser.” He expressed disdain for Duncan’s inability to influence anything within the party and commented that they were glad to see him leave. “Good Riddance Jeff. I don’t even have a chance!!” Trump stated.

This wasn’t the first time Trump criticized Duncan. On August 3, 2024, Trump had previously labeled Duncan as a lightweight and questioned his worth in the political landscape. He remarked that Duncan had only worked with “fake news CNN” and was a poor representative of the party.

Duncan’s Transition to the Democratic Party

Originally ousted from the Georgia GOP in January for endorsing Biden and Kamala Harris, Duncan mentioned that his decision to identify as a Democrat began long before. He noted that Trump’s reactions to the 2020 election and the January 6 events were pivotal points in his change of heart, alongside other policy disagreements.

“There are no clear-cut moments that marked my shift in thinking, but it was certainly influenced by my personal journey,” he remarked, emphasizing a desire to connect with his neighbors better as a Democrat.

Post-expulsion, Duncan was advised by the Georgia GOP’s chairman to refrain from using Republican credentials in public discussions, fearing he might undermine the party further while appearing on CNN.
