Former President Donald Trump released a brief statement after being convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records.
Trump has maintained his innocence and repeatedly alleged that the trial was rigged from the start.
“This was a fraudulent trial and a disgraceful one. The real verdict will be given by the American people on November 5th. The American people know what happened here, everyone knows what happened here. We have a Soros-backed district attorney, but we did nothing wrong. I am completely innocent,” Trump said.
“It’s OK. I’m fighting for my country. I’m fighting for the Constitution. The whole country is being rigged right now. This is something the Biden administration did to influence and hurt their political opponents. This is just a disgrace. We will keep fighting. We will fight to the end, and we will win, because our country has gone to hell. It’s not the same country anymore. It’s a divided mess,” he continued.
“I believe that ultimately this case will be overturned, either by the state or federal government.”
The jury reached its verdict after just the second day of deliberations.
Prosecutors accused Trump of listing payments to his then-personal lawyer Michael Cohen as legal expenses and trying to hide a $130,000 settlement he paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels to silence her allegations of an affair with the former president.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges and denied Daniels’ allegations.
“I obviously disagree with this verdict, as do many others, and believe the case will ultimately be overturned in the state or federal system, but this was the worst possible outcome for a Manhattan trial. I am more saddened by this outcome for the New York justice system than for the former president. I had hoped that the jury would restore integrity to a system that has been exploited for political purposes,” said legal analyst Jonathan Turley. Posts About X.
