President Joe Biden said Wednesday on ABC's “The View” that former President Donald Trump “didn't really believe in democracy.”
Co-host Joy Behar added, “Now he's accusing you of causing these two assassination attempts with your words. Calling for violence, then kicking them out, you know what that means? Don't you think that's incredible? What do you say to that?”
“Well, I think he's a most unorthodox president. When I ran, I said I was going to run. I gave one of my first major speeches at Independence Hall about democracy. That democracy is in danger,” Biden said.
He added: “Trump doesn't have a lot of redeeming societal values. The thing is, he doesn't really believe in democracy and the guardrails that our system puts in place for the abuse of power. You can see it in what he says and does. What he did. January 6th was really strange. On January 6th, I was sitting in my office preparing to be sworn in. I was going to give a speech on a different topic, but I went out and gave a speech about democracy. I gave a speech about why this is absurd, why this cannot be tolerated.”
