Trump rebukes Marjorie Taylor Greene’s failed attempt to oust Speaker

Former President Donald Trump told House Republicans that it was “not the right time” to expel Speaker Mike Johnson and called on them not to vote yes on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). .

The House on Wednesday rejected a vote by Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) to step down as speaker.

Greene appeared to surprise most parliamentary watchers when she tried to force a vote on a motion to vacate the Speaker that was supposed to be allowed for a vote.

She has also been seen in the past promoting her support for Trump and wearing a MAGA hat, but the former president called on Republicans to file a motion.

President Trump said: “I love Marjorie Taylor Greene with all my heart. On the Republican side, Johnson received the support of 196 senators, but 163 Democrats also voted to defend him.

When her motion was defeated, cheers erupted from the House Republican side of the chamber.

Since late March, Ms Greene has threatened to take up the gavel and force a vote to protest Mr Johnson’s handling of government funds and foreign aid.

His resolution, known as a motion to vacate the chair, must be put to a vote or tabled after Mr Green noted on Wednesday night that it was a “privilege”. That means House leaders have two days to take up the proposal in Congress.
