Trump Receives FIFA Peace Prize at World Cup Draw

On December 5, 2025, during the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump was honored with the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize.

The newly established FIFA Peace Prize seeks to recognize individuals who have made extraordinary contributions towards promoting peace globally. Notably, Trump is the first recipient of this accolade.

“This is your award, this is your peace award,” remarked FIFA President Gianni Infantino, highlighting Trump’s efforts in securing a ceasefire in Gaza.

He further stated, “The FIFA Peace Prize is an annual recognition for individuals whose remarkable leadership and actions reflect our dedication to uniting people through football and promoting peace across the world.”

Infantino also shared his feelings on the global turmoil, saying, “We witness suffering everywhere, we empathize with those grieving losses. We long for hope, unity, and a peaceful future. I was privileged to witness the signing of the Abraham Accords, which aimed at peace in the Middle East.”

In his acceptance speech, Trump expressed how receiving this award is “one of the truly great honors” of his life and discussed the importance of ensuring global peace.

“Talking with Gianni about this beyond just the award, we’ve saved millions of lives in places like the Congo. The toll of violence is staggering,” Trump stated.

He added, “We’ve been fortunate to mediate in conflicts, sometimes right before they escalated, helping to end wars.”

Offering thanks, Trump included, “I also want to acknowledge my family, especially my wonderful first lady, Melania. And let’s not forget the great cooperation with Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada and President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico in bringing the World Cup here.”

The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is anticipated to draw over 5 million attendees, with a global viewership expected to surpass 6 billion, making it a landmark event in sporting history.
