Trump appeared on the show Wednesday night and discussed a panicked phone call he made to Rep. Waltz (D-Minn.) in 2020.

During the Black Lives Matter riots sparked by the death of a Black man named George Floyd, the Democratic governor nervously pleaded with President Trump for help as protesters and rioters surrounded the governor's residence.

“Waltz is a strange guy,” Gutfeld said, prompting Trump to explain their previous phone conversation.

“He's a strange guy,” Trump agreed. “A few years ago, I was in the White House and he called me and said, 'My house is being surrounded by people with American flags.' And I said, 'Is that a good thing or a bad thing?'”

“He said, 'I think they're going to attack me,'” Trump recalled. “This was during the riots and all that. They were MAGA people, you know, they liked the American flag. And they liked Trump. And I said, 'How do you know?' And he said, 'Can you just say something like I'm your friend or something?'”

“I don't know him, but that's the only time I've ever spoken to him,” Trump added, explaining that he ended up sharing positive online posts about Walz to avoid the governor being targeted or pursued.

Trump further explained the social media posts, saying, “I made a statement a long time ago that said, 'The Governor is a good man and he's on our side.' I don't know him, but I didn't want him to get hurt. Everybody took the flag down and walked out and he said it was a miracle. I didn't want him to get hurt.”

“I'm intimidated by the American flag…” Gutfeld interjected jokingly.

The segment ended with Trump pointing out that Waltz had claimed there were 15,000 “violent-looking” people outside the mansion at the time, to which Trump responded, “Are they flying American flags?” [Then] They are not going to be violent… but I made a statement. [anyways] And then they just went back, which was beautiful in so many ways.”
