Trump Criticizes Democratic Climate Policies Following UN Scientist’s Admission

On Saturday, former President Donald Trump took aim at the Democratic Party’s climate strategies after a shift from scientists regarding one of the most extreme climate change predictions associated with a United Nations model.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his approval, stating, “Good! After 15 years of Democratic administrations promising that ‘climate change’ would destroy the planet, the UN’s top climate committee just admitted that its predictions (RCP8.5) were wrong! Wrong! Wrong!”

He went on to accuse Democrats of exploiting climate change concerns as a way to drive energy policy and government spending. “For too long, climate change activism has been used by Democratic administrations to scare the American people, push terrible energy policies, and fund billions in bogus research programs,” he said. “Unlike Democrats who are using the nonsense of climate change alarms to promote a new green scam, my administration will always be based on truth, science, and facts.”

His remarks came in light of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) no longer utilizing the most severe emissions scenarios.

The IPCC had warned of dire consequences such as significant global temperature and sea level rises, crop failures, and even mass extinctions. The RCP8.5 scenario, which was later labeled SSP5-8.5, predicted dire outcomes based on high emissions.

According to GB News, this scenario will be phased out as researchers concluded it doesn’t accurately represent the most plausible trajectory in light of renewable energy growth, emissions trends, and climate policy.

In an article in Geoscientific Model Development, the researchers suggested that future climate scenarios should still encompass a broad range of outcomes, from severe warming to decreased emissions. They indicated that in the 21st century, the range of scenarios would be narrower than previously assessed, with the upper limits of high emissions now seeming implausible.

Trump’s comments also echoed his earlier statements at the UN General Assembly last September, where he labeled climate change a “fraudster.” “In my opinion, this is the greatest fraud that has ever been perpetrated in the world,” he declared at that time. “The predictions of the United Nations and many others were all wrong, often for bad reasons.” He criticized the approach taken by previous administrations, implying it compromised national interests without allowing other countries a chance for success.

These statements prompted backlash from Democratic figures, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who called his remarks “complete disinformation.” She mentioned, “Yesterday at the United Nations, President Trump said, ‘Climate change is a hoax,’ because that’s complete disinformation. This is a statement that is being spread even though it is not true.”

In defense of Trump’s remarks, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin spoke with Fox News, asserting, “The president is absolutely right. We’ve seen these left-wing policies, in the name of climate change, seek to cause extreme economic pain, at least to those who can afford it.”
