The Class is in Session
If nothing else, Donald Trump excels at creating a strong image. He instinctively understands what victory looks like. Even those who criticize him often acknowledge this. His opponents might argue that it’s mostly illusion or simply smoke and mirrors. In some cases, they wouldn’t be entirely wrong. Trump has faced significant lows during his career, and at one point, many believed he was finished.
Yet just when people think he’s down for the count, he manages to bounce back.
Recent images from his latest summit paint him as one of the most visually striking modern presidents. B-2 bombers soared above as Putin approached for their meeting, while European leaders huddled, focusing on a map of Ukraine and Russia.
There’s a layer of symbolism even among these powerful visuals.
After the major summit with Ukraine, the White House organized a “family photo” session featuring Trump, Zelensky, and the European leaders. As Trump posed for the photos, he pointed out a mural depicting a challenging moment from his past in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“It wasn’t a great day,” he remarked.
Facing what could be a pivotal moment in his geopolitical journey, Trump remains surprisingly lighthearted, even joking about piercing ears.
Honestly, I’m not sure where all of this is headed, but I want to hold onto a bit of hope regarding the narrative.
European leaders appeared energized after their discussions with Trump, even as media outlets criticized the Putin Conference. The White House indicated that Putin intends to meet with Zelensky in a trilateral discussion soon.
Interestingly, even some of Trump’s critics believe he genuinely wants to find a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
But when it comes to war, it’s really about finding winners and losers. Winning is the only path forward.
All this could be smoke and mirrors, an elaborate act. A theatrical performance.
But one thing is for sure: this situation wouldn’t unfold without Trump at the center.
Whether it ends as a victory or a defeat, it’s clear he will face the consequences head-on.
