Special Counsel Jack Smith filed the latest indictment against former President Donald Trump in Washington on August 27, following a Supreme Court ruling that found that former President Trump enjoys immunity from criminal prosecution as president.
“Today, a federal grand jury in the District of Columbia returned a supplemental indictment charging the defendants with the same crimes charged in the original indictment,” the Office of Special Counsel's filing on Aug. 27 stated.
“The indictment, presented to a new grand jury that has never previously heard evidence in this case, reflects the government's effort to respect and implement the Supreme Court's decision and remand instructions in Trump v. United States.”
The new indictment narrows the scope of charges against the former president by removing charges related to his ties to the Department of Justice.
Donald Trump responded with multiple posts on Truth Social.
