President-elect Donald Trump has responded to the news that Matt Gaetz is declining to become the next attorney general.

45th and 47th The president told Truth Social: “I'm very appreciative of Matt Gaetz's recent efforts to get him confirmed as attorney general. He's done a very good job, but at the same time I didn't want to get in the way of the administration and I have a lot of respect for the administration. Matt has a great future and I look forward to seeing him do great things.”

On Thursday, Gaetz announced he was withdrawing his name from the list of candidates for attorney general.

Trump nominated Gaetz on Wednesday, November 13th.th.

The Florida congressman, a staunch Trump ally, said he was withdrawing his name from the list because Trump's confirmation would “unfairly impede the important work of Trump and Vance's transition.” .
