Trump Reacts to Greene’s Resignation
On Saturday, former President Donald Trump responded to Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s announcement of her resignation, labeling her a “traitor” and expressing his disappointment with her alleged inability to handle a wave of phone calls. He seemed particularly frustrated about her decision to step down.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown has ‘resigned’ because her poll numbers are dropping fast, and she’s worried about facing a primary challenger who backs Trump. Let’s be honest, she doesn’t stand a chance there.” He also criticized her connection with Congressman Tom Massie, whom he described as the “worst Republican congressman in decades.” Trump further expressed his mixed feelings, acknowledging Greene’s past contributions while expressing concern over her recent behavior, suggesting, “For some reason, Marjorie has gotten worse, especially since I stopped responding to her constant messages.” However, he still added, “I will always appreciate Marjorie and thank her for her service to our country!”
Greene, a Republican from Georgia, revealed her resignation late on Friday, shortly after Trump withdrew his support for her. In a lengthy statement shared on social media, she detailed her growing disillusionment with the political landscape, criticizing what she termed a “political-industrial complex” that views Americans as pawns in a divisive game.
She articulated, “Every election cycle, the political-industrial complex of both parties manipulates people to hate the other side more. Yet, the outcome is always the same: life doesn’t improve for the average American.” Greene, who once stood as a staunch defender of Trump, acknowledged that her recent absence from the public eye might have been disheartening, but claimed her core beliefs remain unchanged. Trump, on the other hand, had referred to her as “bizarre” and “an abusive lunatic.”
Greene concluded her announcement by declaring, “My heart is still filled with joy, my life is still filled with happiness, and my true beliefs remain the same because my self-worth is not defined by humans, but by God, who created all that exists.” She stated she plans to resign effective January 5, 2026, expressing a desire to return to her family.
Greene’s departure will pave the way for a special election in Georgia’s 14th District, which is recognized as solidly Republican. This change is likely to provoke further discussions and strategies from both sides as the political landscape shifts.
