In a birthday message to Biden on Friday, former President Donald Trump reiterated his call for fitness-to-play testing amid continued scrutiny over his mental health, criticizing the president.
Trump celebrated his 78th birthday on Friday at an event at Club 47 in West Palm Beach, Florida, and spent much of his speech attacking Biden as the two presumptive nominees face off in a rematch in November. The Associated Press reported.
“Our country is being destroyed by incompetent people,” Trump told supporters, subtly mocking Biden, who turns 82 just after Election Day. “Every president should take a fitness test.”
“I have no idea where I am,” Biden added.
The former president has consistently called for Biden to undergo cognitive testing following a February report by special counsel Robert Hur that portrayed Biden as “a caring, well-intentioned, elderly man with a frail memory,” but Biden’s doctors found him “fit for duty.”
Biden campaign commemorates former president’s birthday Video released The video lists “78 of Trump’s historic accomplishments,” including his “cuts to Social Security and Medicare” and his 34 convictions for falsifying business records in a hush money lawsuit.
The verdict made him the first former president to be convicted of a felony, but his supporters were unable to stop it.
Biden is currently just three years older than Trump, but former presidents and Republican lawmakers have questioned and criticized the sitting president for running, citing his age and declining mental capacity.
“Age is just a number, but an election is a choice,” a Biden campaign video says.
Campaign spokesman James Singer commented on the birthday celebration, “On behalf of America, we’d like to send you an early gift on your 79th birthday.Number“I’ll make sure he never becomes president again,” he said, according to the Associated Press.
Still, the Biden campaign’s efforts to sabotage Trump’s birthday may not have worked, as the former president spent it surrounded by 5,000 fans and a giant cake that read “Make America Great Again.”
The celebration also came a day after the GOP nominee met with GOP lawmakers in Washington. After separate private meetings with House and Senate Republicans, Trump boasted of his “great relationship” with the GOP and appeared to repair ties with some of his most vocal critics, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
Deputies also sang him “Happy Birthday.”
