Trump reveals $54B South Korean investment related to Alaska LNG project

Trump Unveils $54 Billion South Korean Investment

President Donald Trump has revealed a significant investment from South Korea, amounting to $54 billion, aimed at exporting natural gas from Alaska. This announcement came as part of multiple manufacturing and job initiatives being rolled out by the White House ahead of the November midterm elections.

The news, which was shared on September 30, 2026, is rooted in a trade agreement made in 2025 where South Korea pledged to invest $350 billion in the U.S. in return for reduced tariffs on vehicles and other exports.

As stated by the White House, the core of this initiative is an 807-mile-long pipeline transporting natural gas from Alaska’s North Slope to a southern LNG export terminal. This project is expected to ensure a consistent fuel supply, ultimately lowering energy costs for residents.

Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) is a strong supporter of the Alaska natural gas project, especially as he prepares for a tough reelection battle against former Congresswoman Mary Peltola (D-Alaska).

Trump has lauded the senator’s involvement, calling this investment a significant step forward. “We have a lot of great people from Alaska, including your fantastic senator, Dan Sullivan,” Trump remarked in the Oval Office on the announcement day. He emphasized Sullivan’s essential role in getting this deal across the finish line, stating, “He’s not just an excellent senator for Alaska; he’s great for our country and the world.”

The announcement follows Trump’s previous confirmation regarding a new record steel plant being constructed in eastern Iowa by Minnesota-based Mesabi Metallics.

White House spokesman Taylor Rogers highlighted that these investments in energy infrastructure align with Trump’s promises to unleash American energy potential and propel a nuclear energy revival in the U.S. He contrasted this initiative with what he described as the Democrats’ counterproductive energy policies, asserting that this agenda positions the U.S. as a global energy leader.

In a recent tweet, Senator Sullivan noted that the Alaska LNG project could provide low-cost energy to Alaskans for 50 to 100 years while generating 12,000 construction jobs. He expressed optimism for the future, saying, “This is the project that is going to keep our kids and grandkids in Alaska with a great, bright future.”

A day earlier, Secretary Chris Wright tweeted that Trump had inquired on the very first day of his administration about how to proceed with the Alaska LNG pipeline, revealing that this project stands to be the largest infrastructure development undertaken in the past 50 years and marking a remarkable day for America.
