Trump reveals a plan to renovate East Potomac Golf Links with Fazio

Trump Considers Presidential Retreat at Palm Beach Golf Club

President Donald Trump is contemplating a proposal to convert his Palm Beach golf course into a special retreat for future presidents. During a recent interaction with Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy, Trump shared his vision of creating a Mar-a-Lago-like destination for those who will follow in his footsteps.

Trump recently announced his plans to transform a historic public golf course in Washington, D.C., into a premier championship venue, aiming to host major tournaments. He mentioned that the Department of the Interior, under Secretary Doug Burgum, is collaborating with well-known golf course architect Tom Fazio to redesign East Potomac Golf Links, located along the Potomac River near the National Mall.

On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “When completed, it will be open to the Public while, at the same time, designed to the Highest Level of Golf.”

The redesigned course is expected to attract high-profile events like the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, Ryder Cup, and Presidents Cup. Trump noted that the United States Golf Association, PGA of America, and PGA Tour have already been informed of these plans.

The project is seen as a means to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Washington and nearby areas. Currently, the existing course is scheduled to close on November 15 to commence restoration work, with the new course anticipated to open around 15 months later.

Interestingly, Trump did not mention any ongoing legal disputes in his announcement, which included an artist’s rendering of the proposed redesign. Shortly after Trump’s post, U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes acknowledged it and requested the government clarify its stance on the matter by 8 p.m. on Sunday, particularly regarding earlier filings stating that “there is no final agency action,” suggesting the plans were merely preliminary.

Reyes has also mandated that two government attorneys involved in the case attend an evidentiary hearing the following Monday.

While detailing the redevelopment, Trump criticized the current course, calling it “old, broken, dilapidated,” and expressed concerns about dangerous trees and the decay of the seawall.

East Potomac Golf Links, which has been part of Washington’s public golf experience for over a century, sits on federal land within East Potomac Park. The plans for redevelopment have prompted widespread attention, especially with some legal challenges regarding tree removal on the site. Recently, Reyes temporarily halted tree cutting due to these concerns.

Trump believes the renovations will not only enhance the golf course but also restore beautiful views of Washington, stating that it could become “one of the Best and Most Spectacular Golf Courses anywhere in the World.”
