Trump reveals name changes for bases, describes L.A. unrest as ‘attack on peace’ in address to Fort Bragg troops

Celebrating the U.S. Army’s 250th Anniversary

On June 10, 2025, President Donald Trump visited Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to kick off the celebrations for the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday.

Accompanied by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trump toured the nation’s largest military base, where various units showcased their readiness through demonstrations. These included missile strikes, helicopter assaults, and tactical raids, all in honor of the event.

Earlier in the day, Trump expressed optimism, saying, “I think it’s going to be great. We’re going to celebrate our country for a change.”

During his address, Trump announced plans to restore the names of several military bases that had been renamed under the Biden Administration. He specifically mentioned Fort Pickett, Fort Robert E. Lee, Fort A.P. Hill, Fort Hood, Fort Gordon, Fort Rucker, and Fort Polk, saying they would revert to their traditional names.

“Can you believe they changed that name in the last administration for a little bit?” he remarked. “We’ll forget all about that.”

Trump also addressed the ongoing protests and unrest in Los Angeles. He described the rioters and looters as “animals” and labeled them a “foreign enemy” to America.

“We will not allow an American city to be invaded and conquered by a foreign enemy. That’s what they are,” he stated.

At another point, Trump referred to Los Angeles as “a trash heap,” claiming that entire neighborhoods are under criminal control. He emphasized the federal government’s commitment to using all available resources to restore order.

“We will liberate Los Angeles and make it free, clean, and safe again,” Trump promised.

Defense Secretary Hegseth also spoke later in the afternoon, stressing that the current GOP administration is “restoring the warrior ethos” and moving away from “woke garbage” and “political correctness.”

“We’re not a college or a university,” he pointed out, in reference to the perceived liberal bias in many U.S. educational curricula.

A U.S. military parade is scheduled for Saturday to celebrate the Army’s anniversary, coinciding with Trump’s 79th birthday.
