Trump reveals new tariffs on medications, furniture, and large trucks starting October 1.

On Thursday, President Trump revealed a series of product-specific tariffs that are slated to go into effect on October 1. These tariffs include a requirement for manufacturers to produce plant-free drugs within the United States.

These tariffs, which represent Trump’s commitments to countries globally, could face significant backlash, particularly concerning drug imports. Many experts are expressing worry that such tariffs might lead to supply chain disruptions, making certain medications harder to find and potentially more expensive.

“Starting on October 1, 2025, we will impose 100% tariffs on branded or patented drugs unless companies establish a drug manufacturing plant in the United States,” Trump stated on The Truth Society.

He further clarified that businesses either starting construction on a facility or already in the process would be exempt from these tariffs.

Back in July, Trump hinted at a plan to introduce tariffs on drugs but suggested a more gradual approach, allowing companies time to relocate their operations to the U.S. He has previously even threatened to impose tariffs as high as 250% on pharmaceutical imports, marking the highest rate he discussed to date.

Additionally, starting October 1, a 50% tariff will be applied to kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and related products, and a 30% tariff on decorated furniture.

He remarked, “This is due to a significant ‘flood’ of these products from other countries into the United States. It’s quite unfair, but we must defend our manufacturing processes for national security and other reasons.”

Trump also announced that tariffs of 25% will take effect on the same date, stating, “There are many reasons, but most importantly, for national security, truck drivers need to be economically robust!”

So far, Trump has already placed tariffs on various materials including steel, aluminum, copper, and automobiles.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is set to examine next month whether Trump can utilize an emergency declaration to enforce these extensive tariffs on other nations.
