Trump’s Focus Turns to San Francisco in Crime Crackdown
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced that federal law enforcement efforts would shift to San Francisco, praising the FBI for making over 23,000 arrests related to violent crime—significantly more than during the last year of the Biden administration.
During a press conference in the Oval Office, Trump stated that the FBI has “destroyed or seriously disrupted” more than 170 organized crime groups and about 1,600 particularly violent gangs. In addition, over 6,000 illegal firearms have been confiscated.
He expressed a desire to ensure safety in all cities and indicated that San Francisco would be the next focus for these initiatives. “These are great cities that can be improved,” he said. “I would highly recommend… [we] start looking at San Francisco. I think we can make San Francisco one of the great cities. It’s been tough, but we’ve had great support in San Francisco. Every American deserves to live in a community free from the fear of crime—whether that’s robbery, murder, assault, or worse.”
FBI Operations Yield Positive Results
FBI Director Kash Patel spoke during the same press conference, discussing Operation Summer Heat. This initiative was designed to target violent criminals and resulted in the arrest of 8,700 individuals in just three months.
Patel highlighted the staggering amount of drugs seized during the operation, including over 2,200 firearms and 421 kilograms of fentanyl, which he said could potentially harm 55 million people. He noted that the FBI had also confiscated around 1,900 kilograms of fentanyl overall, enough to endanger 127 million Americans.
Reflecting on the previous administration, Patel mentioned, “During the Biden years, we arrested around 15,000 to 17,000 violent felons each year. Under your leadership, Mr. President, we have already arrested 28,600 violent offenders in just seven months. These figures are historic.”
Ongoing Efforts and Child Safety Initiatives
Patel also provided updates on the FBI’s mission to locate missing children, claiming that 5,400 have been found since the start of the year—a 30% increase over the previous administration. Arrests for violent crimes against children rose by 10%, and gang-related arrests surged by 210% in the past seven months.
“Mr. President, you emphasized the need to pursue the worst offenders… and this is just the beginning,” Patel concluded.
