Trump Announces Major Trade Deal with Japan
On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump revealed what he termed a “large” trade deal with Japan.
In a post, Trump claimed that the agreements made with allies like Japan are likely “the biggest deal ever made.” He also mentioned that Japan will implement a 15% mutual tariff in favor of the United States as part of the arrangement.
According to Trump, “We have completed a massive deal with Japan, perhaps the biggest deal ever. Japan will invest $550 billion in the US, which will create hundreds of thousands of jobs. Japan will also open its markets to trade, including cars, trucks, rice, and other agricultural products.”
Trump continued, stating, “Japan will pay mutual tariffs of 15% to the United States. This is an exciting time for the US, especially with our continued strong relationship with Japan. Thank you for your attention to this issue!”
This announcement follows Trump’s earlier plans to impose tariffs on South Korea and Japan, which he announced on July 7th. In another post on Tuesday, Trump described the US-Japan trade agreement as “the largest in history” and said it’s beneficial for everyone involved.
Additionally, the US government announced a trade agreement with the Philippines and also outlined terms for an agreement with Indonesia.
