Trump reveals Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is ‘absolutely’ on his VP shortlist

Former President Donald Trump said Thursday that he is “absolutely” considering Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott as his running mate in the general election.

“He did a great job,” the former president continued. “Yes, indeed. He is someone I would very much like to consider.”

When Mr. Hannity interjected, “So he’s on the list,” Mr. Trump responded, “That’s right.”

The Republican front-runner toured the U.S.-Mexico border near Eagle Pass, Texas, earlier in the day with Abbott, 66, and members of the Texas National Guard.

Abbott endorsed President Trump last November.

President Trump spoke at a South Carolina town hall last week with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), and Byron Donald. Congressman (Republican, Florida) acknowledged the statement. , biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem were all on the short list of vice presidential candidates.

Of the seven candidates Trump has confirmed he is considering, DeSantis is the only one to say he is not interested in the job.

“It’s about who’s going to be a good president. We have to think about that all the time,” Trump said earlier this month about what he would look for in a running mate if he were to secure the Republican presidential nomination.

In January, President Trump teased that he had already chosen a running mate, but he did not reveal who it was when asked at a town hall in Des Moines, Iowa.

President Trump on Thursday did not provide a timeline for when he would announce his nomination.
