George Clooney’s Family Gains French Citizenship Amid Political Commentary
President Donald Trump recently extended his congratulations to actor George Clooney, his wife Amal, and their children for obtaining French citizenship and seeking asylum in France.
On Wednesday, Trump shared his thoughts on Truth Social, stating, “Good news! George and Amal Clooney, the worst political prophets of all time, are now officially French citizens. France is sadly dealing with a major crime problem due to its terrible treatment of immigrants, just like when Sleepy Joe Biden was in office.”
George Clooney, 64, along with Amal Clooney, 47, and their twins, Alexander and Ella, who are 8, have documentation confirming their status as naturalized French citizens. Amal, listed as Alamuddin, possesses citizenship from Lebanon—her birthplace—and the United Kingdom, where she grew up. Although Clooney hails from Kentucky, the twins were born in London.
According to reports from the French government, the family’s contributions have positively impacted France’s cultural and international presence.
In his remarks, Trump also recalled Clooney’s previous call for Joe Biden to step down from the 2024 presidential race. In a July 2024 editorial for the New York Times, Clooney supported other candidates, including Kamala Harris, among others.
“I love Joe Biden. As a senator, vice president, and now president, I consider him a friend. I believe in his character,” Clooney had written back then. He expressed concern over Biden’s ability to win, depicting a stark difference between the Biden he once knew and Biden’s current state.
On the same platform, Trump critiqued not just Clooney but other prominent Democrats as well.
He remarked on Harris’s challenges, declaring she is up against the “worst governor,” referring to Tim Walz of Minnesota, among others.
“Clooney received more attention for his political opinions than for a series of mediocre films,” Trump commented. “He was an ordinary guy constantly critiquing political norms.”
Clooney mentioned earlier that his family’s main home is a farm in France, positioning it as a setting for a “better life.” He voiced his reservations about raising kids in Hollywood.
“I was worried about raising my kids in Los Angeles amidst Hollywood culture,” he shared in an interview with Esquire. “We don’t want them being chased by paparazzi or compared to other famous children.”
