Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher will retire early from Congress.
House Republican leaders, who now have a narrow majority, begged him to stay in office.
According to reports, he has not changed his decision.
The Washington Examiner reported:
Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) still plans to retire early from Congress in April, despite calls from House Republican leadership to continue.
A source close to Mr. Gallagher told the Washington Examiner that Mr. Gallagher has been working with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) and the House of Representatives “throughout this process, including before this decision was announced and a retirement date was agreed upon.” He said he had been in contact with the leaders.
“His decision has not changed,” the source said.
According to Scripps News, Prime Minister Johnson urged Gallagher not to resign from Congress on April 19 as planned, but to “do whatever it takes to stay longer” in the House, where Republicans have a narrow majority. He reportedly begged.
Donald Trump slammed him, saying, “Never forget our cowards and weaklings!”
Never forget our cowards and weaklings! What a shame.
