Trump says he doesn’t believe in ‘loopholes’ to get third term in office

President Donald Trump said in an interview with Time Magazine released Friday that he doesn’t believe in using “loopholes” to find a third term, but he has not yet shut down the idea completely.

Trump and some allies have the idea of seeking a third term in 2028, but the 22nd amendment to the Constitution prohibits the president from taking office.

“You recently said, ‘I’m not kidding’ about seeking a third period, and said there’s a way to do it. What method is it? ” Time asked.

“I don’t want to discuss it now, but as you know, there are some well-known and discussed loopholes,” Trump said. “But I don’t believe in loopholes. I don’t believe in using loopholes.”

Trump responded by promoting his results in a recent cognitive test.

“I don’t know anything, what, what, look, that’s all I can say. I’m flooded with requests,” he said. “I do a good job. Great physical exams, and unlike all other presidents, I took a cognitive test and got 100% of it. You must have not got 100% on that exam. That’s a tough question.

Trump told NBC News in March that he “wasn’t kidding” about the third term, prompting a shocking response from Democrats and Republicans who said he was in power.

“A lot of people want me to do that,” Trump said. “But I basically tell them we have a long way to go, that’s a very early stage in the administration.”
