Trump says he ‘felt the bullet ripping through my skin’ in first statement since assassination attempt

“I felt the bullets going through my body,” former President Donald Trump said. [his] There was an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania election rally and his “skin” was stolen.

“I was shot by a bullet just above my right ear,” the 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate said in his initial statement after being rushed to a local hospital.

“I heard a whoosh and a gunshot and felt the bullets going through my skin so I knew straight away something was wrong. I was bleeding profusely and I knew what was going on.”

President Trump released the statement on his Truth Social page amid conflicting initial reports, including one that said he may have been hit by glass rather than a bullet.

“I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all law enforcement for their swift response to the shooting that occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Trump wrote.

“Most importantly, I would like to express my condolences to the families of those who died at the rally and to those who were seriously injured. I cannot believe that such acts could happen in our country.”

Trump wrote: “[n]At this time, nothing is known about the shooter. The shooter is now deceased.”

As shots rang out at the rally and Secret Service agents rushed onto the stage, the former president collapsed on the stage, then, blood streaming from his face, raised his fist in defiance and yelled at thousands of his supporters, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”

President Biden called the attack “horrible” in remarks Saturday night and said he had attempted to call his general election opponent in the hospital after the White House drew criticism for simply calling the shooting an “incident” in its initial press release.
