Trump says he ‘never spoke’ to ‘hopeless’ UAW

Former President Trump said he had never spoken to the United Auto Workers (UAW), calling the union “desperate” after the union endorsed President Biden for re-election last month. “A typical case.”

“Well, I haven’t talked to the UAW,” President Trump told FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo in an interview scheduled to air Sunday.

“They have led their industry to the brink, and now they are at the end of it. If Biden is elected, there will be no more auto workers working in the United States. ,” he said.

His comments came amid a back-and-forth between Trump and UAW Chairman Sean Fein since the union endorsed Biden last week. Trump called Fein a “drug” who “shared Biden’s ‘vision'” in terms of campaign tactics, but Fein said “Trump has a history of serving himself and representing the billionaire class.” It has a history.”

President Trump spoke with International Brotherhood of Teamsters President Sean O’Brien on Wednesday, and when asked about possible support from the union, he said, “Something strange happened.” Mr. Fein said he could think of “no way” Mr. Trump could win the support of labor unions.

Biden and Fein traveled to Michigan on Wednesday to phone-bank UAW members ahead of the state’s primary election later this month. He also sat down for private discussions with his UAW members locally.

Last year, Biden took the historic step of joining the UAW picket line in the key battleground state of Michigan. Meanwhile, Trump spoke at a non-union manufacturer in Clinton Township, Michigan.

The UAW withheld its support for Biden until late last month, citing concerns about the administration’s focus on electric vehicles.

President Trump said in an interview with Fox Business that promoting electric vehicles is “insane” because the costs are too high.

“We have oil and gas, we have gasoline, and that’s what people want most. Now say this: If you want to buy an electric car, you should be able to buy it. But If you want to buy an internal combustion engine car, if you want to buy a hybrid car, you have to have everything on sale. There are tens of thousands of electric cars on sale right now. No one wants to buy them. ” he said.

When asked what the Teamsters union’s main issue was, Trump said he did not discuss electric cars, but instead talked about immigration.

“I don’t know if they’re concerned, but I told them that, in my opinion, the worst thing they could do is allow Mr. Biden to be president again,” Trump said.
