Former President Trump said Tuesday he had never discussed JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Jamie Dimon as a possible Treasury secretary if he was re-elected, despite the president having said he would consider him.
“I don’t know who said it or where it came from, it was probably some far-left person, but I have never discussed or thought about having Jamie Dimon or Larry Fink as Secretary of the Treasury,” Trump said, also ruling out the BlackRock CEO.
But in an interview earlier this month, it was the former president who said Dimon was someone he would consider for a Cabinet post. Bloomberg.
“I have a lot of respect for Jamie Dimon,” Trump told the outlet.
When asked if he would consider Dimon as a future Treasury secretary, Trump replied, “Certainly, he’s someone I would consider.”
Dimon has previously been evasive when asked about his future government role.
“I want to help my country,” he said at an event in April. “I want to support whoever the next president is. I want to support the other party.” [members] “I want to see doctors back in cabinet. That’s my hope. I want doctors back in government.”
Dimon has served as CEO and chairman of JPMorgan Chase since 2006.
