Trump Calls for EU to Halt Windmill Projects

President Trump has urged the European Union to eliminate wind turbines, claiming they detract from Europe’s natural beauty.

During a recent episode of “Pod Force One,” he stated, “This is a beautiful Europe you know, and I know very well. They told them they have to stop it – they also have to stop the windmills here and there.”

Trump reflected on his experiences in the region, commenting on the “beautiful valleys and beautiful hills and mountains” overshadowed by windmills.

While overlooking Turnberry golf course, often touted as one of the best in the world, Trump expressed concerns about environmental policies. He suggested that those promoting renewable energy sources are engaging in “fraud.”

It seems to really hurt. I mean, the environmentalists claim they want these projects, but it’s hard to believe they truly do,” he said. “They kill birds, alter landscapes, and are noisy. If you see them from your home, it can lower your property value significantly; I think that’s a very bad thing.”

In 2012, nearly 366,000 birds were reportedly killed by wind turbines in the U.S. The American Bird Conservatory notes that domestic wind turbine production has substantially increased since then.

As of 2021, the U.S. housed over 65,000 turbines, while Europe exceeded 100,000. Studies suggest homes close to turbines can lose about 1% in value, according to a 2024 research published by the National Academy of Sciences.

Trump further criticized the turbines, arguing they require financial support and questioned their overall utility. “Energy should generate profit, not losses,” he remarked.

He expressed frustration over abandoned turbines, which he described as an eyesore, saying, “They just stand there and rust.” It remains unclear if Trump’s request to phase out windmills was part of a broader deal discussed with EU officials.

In a 75-minute meeting with Ursula von der Leyen, Trump stated, “Europe has an incredible migration problem.” He insisted this was part of their discussions, along with his desire to remove wind turbines.

The recent U.S.-EU trade agreement included significant investments from Europe in the U.S., totaling $600 billion, while also securing $750 billion for U.S. military and energy products.

The deal established a 15% tariff on EU products, while U.S. goods have no duties. Tariffs on steel and aluminum from European nations remain at 50%.

Trump described this as perhaps “the biggest trade deal ever made” and suggested it could unite a sizable portion of the world.

He indicated that investments in military equipment could reach between $300 billion to $400 billion. Additionally, he noted that NATO would assume responsibility for all weapon costs, relieving the U.S. of financial burdens.

So far, EU representatives in Washington, D.C. have not responded to inquiries regarding these discussions.
