Trump says he won't restrict abortion pill

President-elect Trump said it was very “unlikely” that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would revoke access to abortion pills. interview Along with my time as “person of the year.”

“Look, I've stated it very clearly and now I've stated it very clearly again. I think that's very unlikely,” he said.

“I can't imagine it, but you know, we're looking at everything, but it's highly unlikely.”

Trump's comments echo rhetoric from his first sit-down interview on NBC's “Meet the Press,” in which he said he doesn't think access to abortion pills will change.

He said there was insufficient research on the pill known as mifepristone, sold under the brand name Mifeprex.

“There will come a time in the future when people will know everything about a subject like that. It's a very complicated subject for people, because, you know, they feel really strongly in both directions. And they're dividing the country,” the president-elect told Time magazine.

“But you know my position from very long and difficult experience, and I think it is very unlikely that I will change it.”

Anti-abortion groups are pushing for federal reform after the FDA lifted the requirement for patients to see a doctor before getting the pill in 2021.

In March, the Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit that sought to take the drug off the market due to patient complication rates.

The ruling sparked a reaction from pro-life groups and became a key issue in the 2024 presidential election.

President Trump did not say whether he would urge the FDA to reinstate in-person requirements for abortion pills.
