Trump says he would ‘absolutely’ have Navarro back if reelected

Former President Trump said he would “absolutely” rehire former White House adviser Peter Navarro if he is re-elected in November, even though Navarro is currently in prison.

Navarro is serving the second month of a four-month sentence for failing to comply with congressional subpoenas related to the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

“I absolutely want Peter back in office. This outrageous act by the Democrats should never have happened,” Trump said in a statement. The Wall Street Journal.

Navarro, 74, was booked into a federal prison in Miami in mid-March and has said he does not want to be pardoned if Trump is re-elected.

Navarro is hoping the Supreme Court will release him while he challenges his conviction. The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected his requests twice so far, but Navarro argues the justices should hear his case.

“We are not going to give the Supreme Court an excuse to avoid a landmark constitutional case on separation of powers and executive privilege,” Navarro said in an email to The Wall Street Journal from prison.

A former Trump aide was convicted last year of two contempt of Congress charges — the first for failing to turn over documents related to the Capitol attack and the second for omitting to testify before a House select committee investigating the attack.

Navarro said he has “no regrets” because “I didn’t choose this fight, this fight chose me.”

He is scheduled to be released on July 17, two days after serving his sentence, aged 75.Number birthday.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Navarro will fly to Milwaukee on the day of his release to sign copies of his book, “The New MAGA Deal,” which is due to be released around the time of the Republican National Convention and is an unofficial guide to Trump’s second term in power.

Trump is currently on trial on charges related to allegations that he tried to cover up payments he made to his porn star mistress to gain an advantage in the 2016 election.

He also faces three other criminal counts, including two alleging he sought to overturn the results of the 2020 election, but trials in those cases may not begin before November.
