After surviving an assassination attempt, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump reportedly received calls from two unlikely supporters: Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos.
Zuckerberg, who previously banned Trump from his Facebook Twitter account, praised Trump's defiant attitude after being shot and bleeding, and said there was “no way” he would vote for a Democrat in 2024 given what had happened, Trump said in the interview. New York Magazine It was published on Monday.
“Mark Zuckerberg called me and said, 'I've never supported a Republican in my life, but there's no way I'm voting Democrat in this election,'” Trump told the magazine.
“He and his parents, everyone has always been Democrats. He was like, 'I've seen what you've done, and I'm never going to vote for anyone who disagrees with you.'”
Bezos, the founder of Amazon and owner of the left-leaning Washington Post, also called Trump after he was shot at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, and Trump claimed he was impressed by his bravery.
With blood streaming from his face, Trump was dragged off the stage by a Secret Service platoon and raised his fist at his supporters, urging them to “fight, fight.”
“He said, 'This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen,'” Trump said of his conversation with Bezos.
“And he appreciated what I did in terms of standing up and letting people know.”
Zuckerberg's reported call with Trump does not mean he plans to vote Republican in November, a spokesperson for Meta's parent company Facebook told the New York Post on Monday.
“As Mark has stated publicly, he is not endorsing anyone in this election, nor has he told anyone he intends to vote,” the rep said.
President Trump has been a harsh critic of Zuckerberg, and Zuckerberg recently acknowledged that the Biden administration had pressured his company to censor COVID-19 related content.
Trump has accused Zuckerberg of using his power to help President Joe Biden win the 2020 election.
Zuckerberg acknowledged that Facebook made a mistake by restricting the sharing of a link to a Washington Post report about the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, which was then incorrectly attributed to Russian disinformation.
Meta has been accused of biasing content promoted by the Democratic Party. Facebook and Instagram were among the social media apps that banned Trump following the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
According to New York magazine, Trump did have kind words for Bezos, saying the billionaire “couldn't have been nicer” during the call.
“Despite the fact that you own The Washington Post, I value it highly,” Trump reportedly told Bezos.
The Washington Post has reached out to Bezos for comment.
