Trump says moving FBI headquarters to DC would be key decision of second term

Former President Donald Trump said this week that keeping the Federal Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C., would be a key decision of his second term.

The federal government under President Biden is proposing to split the FBI between Washington, D.C., and a new facility to be built in Greenbelt, Maryland.

“The new FBI building should be built in Washington, D.C., not Maryland, and my plan to completely renovate our nation’s capital and rebuild it into the most beautiful and safest city in the world,” President Trump said via Truth Social on Tuesday. President Trump said centralizing the agency in the capital, near the Justice Department’s headquarters, would facilitate more effective cooperation between the two sides.

Additionally, President Trump claimed that having the FBI in Washington, D.C., would help curb crime in the city, which has skyrocketed in recent years due to lax enforcement and inadequate police equipment.

“The Department of Justice and the FBI need to work closely together, so the FBI has to be within walking distance of the Justice Department building,” President Trump said. “A two-minute walk to a meeting is much better than a two-hour drive in traffic to Greenbelt, Maryland. Similarly, having the FBI in Washington, D.C., is critical to eliminating violent crime. I will do so right away!!!”

President Trump has consistently accused the FBI and Justice Department of working against him behind the scenes in his bid for a second term in the White House.

The former president was charged in an unprecedented trial in Manhattan with 34 felonies for falsifying New York business records.

The former president has pleaded not guilty to all charges in the case, but has denounced the trial as a “fraud” promoted by the Biden administration in the run-up to the 2024 election.

On Tuesday night, he accused the Justice Department of working with the White House to try to take him into court.

“This witch hunt is a false ancient history that was judged entirely by the voters in the 2016 presidential election. It has to do with election interference and there is no way crooked Joe Biden could do it himself. This is a vicious attack on me, a political opponent of Biden, by Soros-backed prosecutor Alvin Bragg, in close coordination with the Justice Department and the White House. It’s illegal, unconstitutional, and technically a third world country!”

In the midst of court proceedings, Trump, who entered the fourth week of his trial on Monday, has repeatedly complained that the trial has not only sidelined him from campaigning but also separated him from his family.
