Donald Trump said he changed and edited his speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) to focus on unity rather than on Democratic President Joe Biden’s shortcomings and poor policies.

In an interview Washington ExaminerWhile Trump said the speech he prepared for the convention “was going to be great,” the 2024 Republican presidential candidate will likely focus on how the assassination attempt on him has changed his campaign message.
“If this hadn’t happened, this would have been one of the best speeches ever,” he added, according to the paper, which noted that the speech focused primarily on President Biden’s policies. “It would be a very different speech now, to be honest with you.”
“This is a chance to bring the whole country and even the whole world together. The speech will be completely different from what it was two days ago,” he added.
Trump said he received calls from prominent people from all over the country and from all walks of life and political ideologies, and that he escaped death if he had caught a glimpse from the crowd at a screen that displayed certain data and statistics that he was going to use in his speech.
“That reality is finally starting to sink in,” Trump continued. “I rarely take my eyes off the crowd. If I hadn’t done that then, who would be standing here talking to you today?”
On Saturday, a mentally ill 20-year-old man attempted to assassinate Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. The suspect, Thomas Matthew Crooks, shot Trump, grazing his right ear, before being shot dead by a Secret Service counter sniper seconds later. The former president was taken to the hospital after the incident and thankfully escaped with minor injuries.
