Former President Trump said his youngest son, Barron, was playing tennis when he learned his father had been shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.
President Trump spoke about his experience visiting the site of an assassination attempt this summer in a sit-down interview with Fox News' “The Ingraham Angle” this weekend. The interview aired in full on Monday night, with a preview released earlier in the day.
“Barron was playing tennis with his friends and someone walked up, ran up to him and said, 'Your father got shot.' He got shot,” Trump said in an interview preview.
“Barron, and Barron really loves his father,” Trump continued.
“And he came in, 'Mom, mom, mom, what happened?' So they saw me stand up, and they saw the fist pump,” President Trump said. He mentioned that an image of him pumping his fist in the air, taken shortly after the attack, went viral.
President Trump returned to Butler, Pennsylvania, this weekend for the first time since the assassination attempt nearly three months ago. President Trump was rushed off the stage by Secret Service agents after the gunman opened fire, leaving the former president with a bloody ear. Two other people were injured in the shooting, and a third person, Corey Comperatore, was shot and killed.
President Trump's return rally on Saturday included vice presidential candidate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump, tech billionaire Elon Musk and others. A number of famous guests participated. Members of the Comperatore family, including his widow Helen Comperatore, also attended the meeting.
