Trump Appoints Dan Scavino as New Director of Presidential Personnel
President Donald Trump has selected Dan Scavino, currently serving as Deputy Chief of Staff, to take over the White House Office of Presidential Personnel.
Scavino is stepping into this role after Sergio Gol, who was recently named ambassador to India.
On Saturday, President Trump shared the announcement on Truth Social, stating, “I am pleased to announce that the great Dan Scavino, in addition to remaining as Deputy Chief of Staff in the Trump Administration, will become Director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel and Ambassador to India, replacing Sergio Gol, who has done an outstanding job in that role.”
“Dan will be responsible for the selection and appointment of nearly every position in the government. This is a very large and important position. Congratulations Dan, you will do a great job!!!”
At 49, Scavino is one of Trump’s most trusted advisors, having played significant roles in his business, campaign, and administration.
Interestingly, Scavino started as a caddy at Briar Hall Country Club, which was later purchased by Trump. Before joining Trump’s team full-time, he worked for Coca-Cola and a pharmaceutical firm called Galderma.
His resume includes being the general manager of Trump National Golf Club Westchester and, during the 2015 presidential campaign, serving as Trump’s social media director. Following Trump’s 2016 election victory, Scavino became the White House social media director and later took on roles as a senior adviser for digital strategy and chief of staff for communications.
While leading the Office of Personnel Affairs has often been viewed as merely administrative, it actually carries significant weight, collaborating closely with the president on the hiring and firing of numerous political appointees.
In the background, Gol conducted a series of constructive meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, working to enhance U.S.-India relations following Trump’s imposition of tariffs on Indian exports aimed at discouraging Russian oil purchases.
“I am pleased to welcome Sergio Gol, who has been appointed as US Ambassador to India. I am confident that his tenure will further strengthen the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the US,” PM Modi said in a post on Saturday.
