Trump sends nuclear submarines to respond to Russia’s provocative threat

Trump Orders Nuclear Submarines Near Russia

President Donald Trump has decided to deploy two U.S. nuclear submarines to “appropriate” locations near Russia amid recent provocative statements from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

On Friday, Trump shared this information on Truth Social, framing the submarines’ repositioning as a necessary action following Medvedev’s threats against the U.S. The current deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council had made some pointed remarks that seem to have triggered Trump’s response.

“Based on the highly provocative statements of the Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that,” he wrote. “Words are very important and can often lead to unintended consequences; I hope this will not be one of those instances.”

Before Trump’s announcement, Medvedev had criticized him in a post on X, warning that each new ultimatum presented by Trump could lead to war, not just between Russia and Ukraine, but possibly within the United States itself.

As Trump departed the White House to head to his Bedminster, New Jersey club, he was asked about this situation. He commented, “He was talking about nuclear. When you talk about nuclear, you have to be prepared. And we’re totally prepared.”

There was no clarification from Trump on whether he meant nuclear-powered or nuclear-armed submarines. Given the classified nature of military operations, the specifics of the submarines’ movements are unlikely to be revealed to the public.
