Insights from Trump’s Conversations with Queen Elizabeth II
A sneak peek into the forthcoming book, Queens and Presidents: The Hidden Hands That Shaped History, reveals some qualities of the late Queen Elizabeth II that President Donald Trump admired.
Even though the United States was founded due to a rebellion against British rule, the connection between the U.S. and Great Britain has persisted. Elizabeth’s long reign overlapped with that of 14 American presidents, many of whom made state visits to meet her.
Trump, being one of those presidents, shared his experiences with author Susan Page in a book set for release on April 14th. He recounted an unforgettable conversation he had with the Queen.
“I asked her, ‘So, who was your favorite president?'” Trump reminisced.
According to him, the Queen replied, “Why? Everyone was very nice.”
He pressed on, asking if she preferred Ronald Reagan. The Queen responded, “Oh, yeah, I really liked him, but they were all good.”
After asking about Richard Nixon, Trump got a similar response. “What do you mean you liked them all?” he queried.
The Queen explained, “I loved them all. I can’t say anything bad about them. They were wonderful.”
Trump then shifted his inquiry to British prime ministers, recalling that he once asked if Winston Churchill was her favorite.
“No, no, no, he was great, Winston. But they were all very good. They worked very hard. They were very different, but they worked very hard. They were all very good,” she replied.
Trump seemed to be drawn to her polite demeanor. He mentioned to Page, “What genius is this? I couldn’t get her to say anything negative about anyone. In fact, she was great. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be controversial; it was just unnecessary.”
According to Page, the Queen sparked some self-reflection in Trump. He noted, “I hate to say this because it sounds self-deprecating. She was the opposite of me in some ways. She didn’t mix it up. She’s been there for decades, and if you think about it, she literally never made a mistake. Everyone around her made mistakes, but she never did.”
