President Trump Discusses Armed Incident at WHCA Dinner

During a late-night press conference on Saturday, President Donald Trump addressed an armed suspect who infiltrated the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) dinner, describing how the individual “charged from 50 yards away.”

The president spoke following an incident where a gunman rushed a magnetometer and shot a Secret Service agent in the chest. Thankfully, the officer was wearing a bulletproof vest and was reportedly shot at close range with a “very high-powered firearm.” Trump remarked that “the vest did its job” and commended the officers for their response.

Providing more context, Trump emphasized that the venue was “very secure.” He reiterated that the suspect was indeed quite distant from the room where the event took place.

“You know, he charged from 50 yards away,” Trump stated. “So he was quite far away from the room.”

The president also shared security footage on his Truth Social account depicting the suspect’s actions.

Trump expressed concerns about the safety of the Washington Hilton, the event’s location, even while insisting he was “very far away from the room.” He elaborated on his experience during the event, saying:

“It’s always shocking when something like this happens. It’s a bit surreal—you’re sitting next to the First Lady, and I heard a noise I initially thought was just a tray. It was loud, but he hadn’t even reached the area at all.”

He mentioned that some guests realized what was happening immediately, while others remained unaware. “I probably should have gone down sooner,” he added.

When questioned about why such incidents occur around him, Trump suggested that prominent individuals tend to attract attention from those with ill intentions. “They don’t typically go after people who haven’t done much because they like it,” he explained. “Look at the influential figures targeted in the past; these are significant names, and I don’t know if they feel honored by it,” he said.
