The official cause and manner of death of Thomas Matthew Crooks, the attempted assassin of former President Donald Trump, has been released.
The Butler County Coroner’s Office told Fox News Digital on Saturday that Crooks died from a gunshot wound and the manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
The 20-year-old man was pronounced dead in Butler County after firing five shots into a Trump rally there on July 13, striking the former president in the ear but “neutralizing” him 26 seconds later.

An autopsy has been completed in Allegheny County, next to where Crooks lived in Bethel Park, according to the Butler County coroner’s office. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Butler County coroner’s office for comment.
It is unclear what happened to Crooks’ body after the examination. Fox News Digital was unable to reach his family for comment.

Few people applauded when Thomas Matthew Crooks, a slender, bespectacled 2022 Bethel Park High School graduate, was handed his diploma, a YouTube video of the ceremony showed.

“Everyone said he was the kind of kid who would shoot up the school,” Julianna Grooms, who graduated a year after Crooks, told The Wall Street Journal. “He was a bullied kid, an easy target.”
But a classmate who was on the bus with Crooks and whose sister was close to the shooter told Fox News Digital that Crooks was being misunderstood by classmates who were “making up” “totally random information.”
“He didn’t say much, but when he did, he was a fun conversation,” a former Bethel Park High School student who graduated a year after Crooks said Friday night. “He was easy to talk to. He was a fun conversationalist, very down-to-earth, very humble guy.”

“He had friends, he had friends on the bus, he had friends in class,” the classmate said. “Not many people knew him, but those who did never had a bad impression of him.”
