Cabot, Pennsylvania – Hundreds of people gathered in rural Pennsylvania on Friday, waving American flags to honor local hero Corey Comperatore.
A former Buffalo Township fire chief shielded his family from gunfire when a gunman opened fire during former President Trump’s rally in Butler on Saturday.
“Lie down” were reportedly his last words. The 50-year-old Comperatore lost his life that day.
His daughter called him a “true hero” and a huge crowd gathered to pay tribute and bid him a brave farewell.

Virtually every level of law enforcement, from local police to federal agents to firefighters, paramedics and military personnel from across the region, drove through rural Pennsylvania streets.
Residents waved flags, some visibly overcome with emotion as they wiped away tears.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, and two daughters.
Officials with binoculars could be seen on nearby rooftops, and a small group of reporters waited a short distance away.

The gunfire sliced through Trump’s ear, but it was an accidental head movement that could have assassinated the Republican presidential candidate.
David Duch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, were seriously injured and are currently recovering in hospital.

The gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was positioned on a roof overlooking the rally about 150 yards from where Trump was speaking, was eventually shot dead in an attempt to end the gunfight.
