Former President Donald Trump showed off a chart about immigration at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night, saying it literally saved his life last Saturday.
“Less than four years ago, I handed this administration the strongest border in American history. But if you look at the chart, you’ll see it saved my life. That’s the chart that saved my life,” Trump said, as a chart was projected on a screen behind him.
Last week at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, a shot rang out, hitting Trump in the right ear as he turned to point to the same graph. Many credited Trump’s focus on the graph showing illegal immigration numbers with saving his life, noting that he had been looking at the graph just before he was shot.

President Trump told the audience he was proud of the graph, which showed that illegal border crossings had been declining under his administration but have skyrocketed in recent years.
“Oh, this is amazing. This is amazing,” Trump said after noticing the graph on the screen at the Republican National Convention. “The last time I put this graph out, I didn’t get a chance to look at it properly. Without this graph, I wouldn’t be here today.”

“Tragically, a shooter took the life of our fellow man, Corey Comperatore, and severely injured two great warriors, David Duch and James Copenhaver. I have spoken with all three families of these fine people, and our love and prayers are with them and always will be,” Trump said.
“Corey was a highly respected former fire chief. He was accompanied by his wife, Helen, and their two precious daughters. He gave his life as a human shield to protect them from the onslaught of bullets. What an honorable man he was,” Trump added.
