Trump signs order guaranteeing TSA employees receive pay during partial DHS shutdown

Trump Signs Executive Order to Pay TSA Agents Amid Shutdown

President Donald Trump has issued an Executive Order aimed at ensuring that Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents receive their pay during the ongoing partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He characterized the situation as an urgent “emergency.”

On Friday, Trump released a memo that instructs the DHS to process payments for TSA agents who have faced delayed paychecks, resulting from funding disagreements with Democratic lawmakers.

“As President of the United States, I have determined that these circumstances constitute an emergency situation compromising the Nation’s security,” Trump stated in the memo.

He further directed the Secretary of Homeland Security to identify funds related to TSA operations to ensure that TSA employees receive the compensation they missed due to the ongoing shutdown.

According to sources, funding for these payments will come from Trump’s tax legislation enacted in 2025, as revealed by an anonymous senior administration official.

Since the shutdown began on February 14, TSA agents have missed several weeks of paychecks, marking one of the longest partial shutdowns in U.S. history.

Democratic lawmakers have consistently resisted efforts to end the DHS shutdown, asserting that agencies responsible for immigration enforcement, like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), need to undergo significant reforms first.

To align with a funding proposal, these lawmakers are advocating for fundamental changes in immigration enforcement, including enhanced oversight and specific restrictions on operational methods, as part of broader negotiations over border security policies.

In contrast, Republicans contend that providing funds for TSA workers while neglecting ICE and CBP undermines national security interests.

This is a developing story, so stay tuned for updates.
