Trump Responds to Charlie Kirk’s Assassination
President Donald Trump shared a video addressing the assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, referring to Kirk’s death as “a dark moment in America.”
In the video posted on Truth Social, Trump expressed his “sadness and anger” regarding the “vicious assassination” of Kirk, highlighting that he was a “man of deep, deep faith.”
“To my great fellow Americans, I am filled with grief and rage over the vicious assassination of Charlie Kirk on a university campus in Utah,” Trump stated. “Charlie inspired millions, and everyone who knows him is united in shock and fear. He was a patriot who dedicated his life to public debate and held a profound love for America.”
Trump further remarked, “He fought for freedom, democracy, justice, and the American people. He was a champion of truth and freedom, earning respect from a young age. We find comfort in knowing he is now at peace with God. Our thoughts are with his wife, Erica, and their two young children, whom he adored.”
“This is a dark moment for America,” he added. “Kirk traveled the country, engaging with those interested in honest discussions. He aimed to involve young people in the political process, sharing his love for the country and spreading straightforward common sense.”
“It’s high time for all Americans and the media to recognize that violence and murder stem from demonizing those with differing opinions in the most hateful ways,” Trump stressed. “For years, radical leftists have likened great Americans like Charlie to Nazis and history’s worst criminals. This rhetoric contributes directly to the terrorism we experience today and must cease immediately.”
Trump urged “all Americans” to uphold the “American values” that Kirk represented, both in life and in death, framing it as a commitment to free speech, citizenship, the rule of law, patriotic devotion, and God’s love.
The video was released shortly after Kirk was tragically shot in the neck at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
