Trump Speaks with ‘Devastated’ Angel Parents of ‘Incredible’ Laken Riley

Former President Donald Trump said during a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border that he spoke with the angel parents of Laken Riley, the 22-year-old nursing student who was allegedly killed by an illegal alien in Athens, Georgia.

“The press is coming out, we’re reporting it, and everyone…and I talked to the parents of a wonderful young woman, and you saw her the other day, and the other day in Georgia. You saw what happened,” Trump and the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said Thursday in Eagle Pass, Texas.

“And my parents are devastated. They are wonderful people,” he continued.

On February 22, Laken Riley was found murdered in a wooded area on the University of Georgia campus. Riley, a nursing student at Augusta University, went for a run that morning and when she didn’t return, her roommate called police.

The next day, Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, was arrested and charged with Riley’s kidnapping and murder.

Investigators said Riley was found bludgeoned to death with an object and her skull deformed. Riley also tried to call the police, but Ybarra stopped her.

“This is Biden’s invasion over the last three years…He’s the worst president in our country’s history, and probably the most incompetent president we’ve ever had,” Trump said.

Ibarra arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border near El Paso, Texas, in September 2022 and was quickly deported by President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS), according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials. released to the department.

Mr. Ybarra benefited from Mr. Biden’s extensive catch-and-release network. This net allows border crossers to be released on parole into the U.S. interior, with immigration hearing dates that are years, sometimes nearly a decade, away.

Jose Antonio Ybarra (Clark County Sheriff’s Office)

More than six months before Riley was killed, Ybarra had been arrested in New York City on suspicion of assaulting a child and violating motor vehicle regulations. The city’s custody policy ensured that Ybarra would be released from jail instead of being turned over to ICE agents.

Ybarra was then arrested in Athens on suspicion of shoplifting in October 2023, but was not turned over to ICE agents. He failed to appear in court for the charges and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.), Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.) and Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee are Alejandro Mayorkas of the Department of Homeland Security; I told the Commissioner that he needed to submit all the information. About Ibarra and why he was released into the interior of the United States in the first place.

“Please submit a copy of Jose Antonio Ibarra’s case file by March 8 at the latest, including any urgent humanitarian reasons or important public concerns justifying the decision to grant him parole. It includes records showing what the benefits are,” the senators wrote to Mayorkas.
