Grand Rapids, Michigan (wood) — Murder victim Ruby Garcia’s sister looked incredulous at her home with her family as she told a Michigan audience that former President Donald Trump spoke to “some of her family.” He said he was watching the live broadcast.
“He didn’t talk to any of us, so it was kind of shocking to see him say he talked to us and give people misinformation on live TV,” Ruby said. Garcia’s sister, Mavi Garcia, told Nexstar’s WOOD.
Family spokeswoman Mavi Garcia said neither Trump nor anyone from his campaign has contacted her or any of her immediate family members. She said her family is close and would know if something like that happened.
“It was shocking. I kind of stopped watching it. I only watched it up to that point. After hearing some of the misinformation he said, I stopped watching it.” Mavi Garcia said.
President Trump shifted focus by focusing part of his speech on Tuesday on immigration. Murder on March 22nd Ruby Garcia, 25 years old. According to court records, Brandon Ortiz Vito. illegal in Americaadmitted to killing her and abandoning her along US-131 in Grand Rapids.
Police said the two were a couple, but Ruby Garcia’s sister said the two were friends and the relationship didn’t go that far.
She said she knew Ortiz-Vito was in the United States illegally but did not know the details.
“I wish he had stayed in Mexico,” Mavi Garcia said.
She spoke to the media days after her sister’s shooting, but her family asked for privacy thereafter, including on the day of her funeral. But she quickly responded to a text message from her Wood after President Trump’s speech in Grand Rapids on Tuesday.
She said she was angry that Trump and others had turned her sister’s death into a political one.
“It’s always been about illegal immigration,” Garcia said. “In some ways, it’s shocking why he brings up only illegal acts when no one talks specifically about when Americans commit heinous crimes. What happens to Americans who commit such heinous crimes? mosquito?”
“Right now, the focus should be on my sister, who she was when she was alive. I want people to remember who she was when she was alive,” she continued.
“she very happy personShe’s a very generous person,” she said of her sister. “She was always so happy. It can brighten up her room.”
Ortiz-Vito is charged with five counts, including felony murder and auto burglary. He is scheduled to return to Grand Rapids District Court on April 9.
