Trump Speech Boisterous, Partisan — But Effective

Following President Donald Trump's speech to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, Fox News Channel analyst Britt Hume provided feedback on the president's remarks.

Hume acknowledged the partisan aspect of the address, calling it “most effective” covering 50 years of speech in its setting.

“This was the loudest, longest, most partisan speech I've ever heard of the president giving in this kind of environment,” Hume declared. “And I'm going back to this about 50 years ago, and I think it might have been the most effective. So if you've ever doubted that Donald Trump is a giant, it's a political colossus in our time and in our country tonight, and this speech should have given it a break.”

He continued. “The Democrats seemed to fall into the trap after the trap, and he recognized these people and celebrated the people they pointed out in the gallery and their stories, so the Democrats sat in a grumpy mood in their hands. Through all of that, it looked awful. Al Green's attempt to confuse the speech was a bad look for Democrats. I think this was very powerful, politically speaking – as powerful as I think I've heard.”
