Trump Defends Controversial Comments About Minnesota Governor
President Trump has stood by his remarks describing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as “severely mentally retarded,” asserting that “there’s something wrong with him.”
At 79, Trump criticized Walz for permitting a large influx of Somali immigrants into Minnesota. This came shortly after he vented on social media about immigration, making pointed remarks aimed at Democrats.
“I think there’s something wrong with him, you’re right,” Trump said to reporters when questioned about his controversial statement over the weekend.
He went on to express frustration with Walz for, in his view, allowing Somali immigrants to overwhelm his “once great nation.” Trump, in a fiery post on Truth Social following Thanksgiving, claimed Somali gangs lurk in the streets, leaving American citizens fearful and confined to their homes.
“Anyone who does what he does—bringing those people into the state and spending billions on Somalia… Somalia isn’t really functioning as a country; it just has a name,” he added. “There’s something wrong with Walz.” This seems rather intense, doesn’t it?
In his previous comments, Trump mentioned feeling outraged that Walz, who was once Kamala Harris’ running mate during his presidential campaign, allowed certain communities to dominate. It’s hard to overlook that kind of rhetoric.
After Trump’s Thanksgiving post, Governor Walz swiftly responded, questioning the president’s own mental state. “Publish the MRI results,” Walz remarked on X, referencing the recent medical exam Trump had claimed was “perfect.”
On Sunday, Trump asserted that he had no issue with releasing his medical records when pressed by a reporter. “Governor Walz? You mean the incompetent governor? If they want to release him, I don’t mind releasing him,” he said.
