Trump Discusses Iran’s Nuclear Program and the Strait of Hormuz
In a recent conversation, former President Donald Trump emphasized that Iran’s triumph is centered around managing its nuclear program, rather than the status of the Strait of Hormuz.
The blockade imposed by Iran has significantly restricted oil exports from the region, which has consequently caused gas prices to climb. As of Tuesday, the national average for gas hit $4 a gallon.
However, Trump, as reported by The New York Post, claimed his focus remains on preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. It seems he believes that even if the Strait stays closed, he could still bring an end to the war, as noted by another outlet.
“Honestly, I don’t really think about it,” Trump mentioned. “My main objective was to ensure they wouldn’t have nuclear weapons. Once we pull out, I believe the straits will open up automatically.”
While Trump has made his stance on nuclear weapons clear, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt stated that the administration is committed to the full reopening of the Straits, but the president’s core goals have been defined for the public.
Trump noted that the reduced U.S. oil exports through the strait enables other nations to consider their own strategies concerning this matter. “Those who control the oil will likely want to open the straits,” he added.
A deadline of April 6 has been set by Trump to resolve the situation, after which he indicated that the U.S. would take military action against Iranian power facilities.
Reports have surfaced that U.S. forces have already targeted 11,000 sites. Trump mentioned that efforts are underway to neutralize any remaining Iranian threats.
He proudly reported an overnight strike near Isfahan, an essential site for Iran’s nuclear activities, referring to the resulting explosion as “beauty.” He expressed that the blast, which exceeded expectations, seemed to indicate a large cache of nuclear materials.
“It turned out to be bigger than we anticipated. They had a lot of stuff. We have significantly reduced their nuclear capabilities and instigated regime change,” Trump stated, suggesting a shift in the current Iranian leadership towards more rational dialogue.
When pressed about the specific effects of the airstrike, Trump chose not to elaborate.
